Nordhoff wins CIF title

The Nordhoff Rangers defeated North Torrance 31-14 on the road to capture their first ever CIF title in football. NHS used a 21 point third quarter to get by the Saxons. The Rangers overcame some early mistakes to eventually pull away in the second half. Both Tayler Livingston and Eric Lara scored two touchdowns each and the defense limited the damage the Saxons' play makers could do.

Rangers win in Compton, going to CIF Finals

Nordhoff wins 13-8 on a Tayler Livingston touchdown run and two field goals by Cooper Garcia. More details to be posted later.

Tonight the Nordhoff Rangers qualified for the CIF-SS Finals after defeating the Compton - Centennial Apaches, 13-8. NHS jumped out to a 13-0 first half lead and then they were able to hang on to the 13-8 win. The Rangers and Apaches went back-and-forth late in the game and NHS did not punch their ticket to the finals until late the final seconds of the game.

Tayler Livingston was the workhorse for the Rangers tonight as he rushed for nearly 200 yards and scored Nordhoff's only touchdown of the game. Sophomore Cooper Garcia booted field goals of 42 and 47 yards, which proved to be the difference in the game. The NHS defense was stellar and several players had big games. Senior Brad Sloan made a few huge plays for the Rangers.

With the win, the Rangers have earned a trip to CIF Finals where they will face the North Torrance Saxons (11-2). See next week's OVN for more information on tonight's game and the CIF Finals.

Nordhoff blows by Whittier Christian

On a wet and soggy Friday night, the Nordhoff Rangers took down the Whittier Christian Heralds, 51-28 to advance to the CIF-SS semifinals. The Rangers jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Five different Nordhoff players scored touchdowns on the night, including Kevin Crane, Tayler Livingston (2), Shane Hersh (2), Jake Boyd and Eric Lara.

The Rangers will now travel to Compton to take on Compton Centennial Friday night for the right to play in the CIF Finals. For more information on Nordhoff's big second round playoff game, see Wednesday's OVN.

Rangers kick-off post season in style

The Nordhoff Rangers started their post season run with a dominating 44-0 victory over the Sierra Vista Dons. NHS did not waste any time setting the tone tonight as they jumped out to a 27-0 first quarter lead and they did not look back from there. Quarterback Tanner Workman threw three touchdowns on the night, two went to Eric Lara while the other was caught by Jake Boyd.

Running backs Matt Woodcock, Tayler Livingston and Dustin Boynton each scored a touchdown. The NHS defense did not give an inch all night and the Dons never came close to finding the end zone. Rangers hammer Santa Paula


The Nordhoff Rangers got back to their winning ways and thrilled the Homecoming crowd with a dominating 48-0 win over the visiting Santa Paula Cardinals. Matt Woodcock was dominant early in the game and he capped the Rangers’ first drive of the night with a 54-yard touchdown run. He would go on to score two more touchdowns in the first half before coming out of the game once the Rangers were in control.

Senior Eric Lara rushed for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass from Tanner Workman. Workman also found Jake Boyd for a touchdown. Baylee Rogers rounded out the scoring on the night for the Rangers with a short touchdown run. With their win, the Rangers improved to 9-1 on the season. Rangers upset in Santa Barbara

The Nordhoff Rangers traveled to Santa Barbara tonight to take on Bishop Diego in a huge Tri-Valley League contest and the two teams did not disappoint in the excitement category. The Rangers got on the board first with a 61-yard touchdown catch by Matt Woodcock. The Cardinals pulled even and the game was tied at 7-7 going into halftime.

Bishop Diego took a 14-7 lead in the third quarter and despite several prime opportunities to tie the score late in the game, NHS was not able to get the ball in the end zone again and the Cardinals upset the Rangers 14-7. With the win, Bishop Diego claims the 2012 Tri-Valley League championship and advance to 9-0 for the first time in the school's history.

The Rangers drop to 8-1 on the season and will need to rebound quickly because they will face Santa Paula at home Friday night. See Wednesday's OVN for more information on tonight's game.

Rangers improve to 8-0 on the season

The Nordhoff Rangers improved to 8-0 after another defeating the Carpinteria Warriors, 49-28. The Rangers jumped out to a 14-0 lead but then the Warriors scored 21 unanswered points to take the lead early in the third quarter. NHS then poured it on and scored 35 unanswered of their own to take control of the game.

Junior running back Tayler Livingston score three touchdowns to lead the way for the Rangers. Matt Woodcock added two rushing scores of his own while quarterback Tanner Workman threw two touchdowns to Eric Lara and Austin Wolcott.

With the win, the Rangers set the stage for a huge game next week against the Bishop Diego Cardinals. The winner of the game will likely win the 2012 Tri-Valley League championship.

Nordhoff edges Oak Park in league opener

It was not pretty, but the Nordhoff Rangers defeated the Oak Park Eagles, 20-12 tonight. The two teams went scoreless for most of the first half before each team added touchdowns late in the second quarter. Both the Rangers and Eagles missed their extra points, making the score 6-6 at the half.

In the second half, the Rangers took a 13-6 lead when running back Matt Woodcock threw a touchdown to Jake Kunde. Hannah Greene added the extra point to give the Rangers a touchdown advantage. The Eagles came right back and added a touchdown, but they missed their second extra point of the night and NHS led 13-12 in the fourth quarter.

Late in the game, Oak Park had the ball and was moving but senior Brad Sloan made a great play on the ball and intercepted the pass and returned the ball to the Oak Park two-yardline. From there, Tanner Workman scored on a quarterback keeper making the score 20-12. The win takes the Rangers to 7-0 overall on the season.

Nordhoff rolls over Royals

The Nordhoff Rangers improved to 6-0 on the season after steamrolling the San Marcos Royals tonight, 55-7. Nordhoff came into the game nursing some injuries and played without leading rusher Tayler Livingston. However, the Rangers got a huge game from junior running back Matt Woodcock, who scored four touchdowns on the night.

Quarterback Tanner Workman also played well, throwing three touchdown passes in the game to Jake Boyd, Austin Wolcott and Taylor Brown. Nordhoff's other touchdown was scored by Jake Kundle.

With the win, Rangers complete their non-league schedule perfect on the season and they will enjoy their bye week before heading into Tri-Valley League play when they face Oak Park. For more information on Nordhoff's big win over San Marcos, see Wednesday's ONV

Rangers score upset over Thousand Oaks

Friday night was a night Nordhoff football fans will not soon forget. The Rangers took on the Thousand Oaks Lancers and came away with a 29-21 victory. NHS jumped out to a 7-0 lead after Tanner Workman connected with Eric Lara on a 16-yard scoring play. The Lancers tied the game at 7-7, but then the Rangers posted another score late in the first half when Tayler Livingston scored on a short run with 11 seconds to play in the half.

In the second half, Thousand Oaks tied the game and then went ahead 21-14. Trailing for the first time all season, the Rangers came right back when Workman connected with Lara for a second time, this time from 69-yards out. Head coach Tony Henney decided to go for two and it paid off when Workman found Austin Wolcott in the end zone to give the Rangers the 22-21 lead.

Nordhoff put the game away late in the fourth quarter when Livingston broke through the line on a third and one play and scampered 59 yards for the score to give the Rangers the 29-21 win.

Nordhoff thumps Nipomo

Special teams, solid defense and big plays on offense helped propel the Nordhoff Rangers to a lopsided 56-13 win over the Nipomo Titans tonight. Tayler Livingston rushed for three touchdowns and quarterback Tanner Workman threw touchdown passes to Brad Sloan, Eric Lara and Austin Wolcott. The Rangers got after the Titans on special teams and recorded several massive hits on the night, one resulted in fumble that Brandon Wadsworth scooped up and ran back for a touchdown. Daniel Cornejo added a late touchdown to cap the scoring on the night.

Rangers take out Lancers, 48-7

On a night where Nordhoff High School inducted 10 new members to their Athletic Hall of Fame, the Nordhoff football team hammered an outmanned Grace Brethren team, 48-7. The Rangers jumped out to a 27-0 first quarter lead and then extended that lead to 41-0 at the half. Junior quarterback Tanner Workman had his best game of the season, throwing for four touchdowns. Workman connected with Jake Boyd and Eric Lara twice on scoring plays during the game. Tayler Livingston scored two touchdowns on the ground and Matt Woodcock added a score to end the night for the Rangers. With the win, the Rangers advance to 3-0 on the season.
